3 THINGS I LEARNT THIS WEEK

1. Another week of discovery. Undergoing a name change, a relocation and and a high quality corporate make-over, footprints have settled into new premises on the intersection of Commercial Road and Florence Street, in Newstead. Previously known as New Farm Community Options, the organization continues to be at the forefront of providing community support and assistance to an assembly of groups and individuals throughout this part of Brisbane. It is a non profit organization established in 1990 in New Farm. There is a variety of responsible and caring programmes suited to many. These include the Resident Support Programme, Community Aged Care Packages and a popular Centre Based Activities Programme. I'm recommending a closer look via their website on www.footprintsinc.org.au We'll have ongoing references here on NFP.

 2. For a few more days, this snippet will remain right here. What might have been ? The South East Qld Branch of the Club hosts its end of year function this coming Sunday. A big crowd is expected at the Mermaid Beach Surf Club, with drowning of sorrows likely to take up much of the day. Those totally committed have already moved on and are already making arrangements for the pre-Season Competition.

 3.  Street intersections around New Farm continue to be sensibly upgraded. Here at the corner of Sydney and Moray, road markings perfectly match the adjacent "Santa Barbara" residence. Our Heritage Walk  feedback tells us that "Santa Barbara" was built in 1930. It was way ahead of its time  Stunning work !

Team of the week

A cut above the rest !

The WILLOW TEAM, as they would like to be known, are making great impressions on NF hair fashion via their new shop in Oxlade Drive. Beautifully appointed are both premises and staff and the local area has responded with great enthusiam to the professional service on offer. Early month's results provide much joy to Team leader, Hayley Braggs. Together with Anya, Janna and Karissa, the Team appears well entrenched in NF.

Reflections milestone !

Reflections milestone !

This week saw the celebration of the selling of the 1000th copy of the very popular, "Reflections on New Farm" .  Mary Ryan's New Farm biggest seller, the book is already having a reprint delivered to the Store as we speak. Co-author Gloria Grant  was joined by the buyer of the 1000th copy, Cheryl Lourey of Newstead, and Store owner Christine Purdy in a small gathering in the Store. A full Report of the day will appear in the LIBRARY section in following days.

Brisbane - a 150 year celebration

Brisbane - a 150 year celebration

Today, we dropped into the launch by the Lord Mayor, of the fabulous book, Brisbane :150 Stories, commemorating 150 years of the people , places and the events that have shaped this fair City. We were amazed and impressed at the depth and the intensity of the Celebration as a whole. This book will provides hundreds of hours of entertainment and intrigue to past, present and future generations. This place does a lot of things very, very well.

Historians Gloria Grant and Gerard Benjamin hosted a Holland Park Historical Group on Exhibition Wednesday, with initially a workshop styled expose of their great success " Reflections on New Farm" . Already setting sales records from local outlet, Mary Ryan Books, the topic provided a very appropriate theme for the day, which finished with a sumptuous luncheon in the Park.

An un-named eatery quite close to the Park, has yet to see the outcomes of some recent Tenancy upgrade work. Clearly carried out "in-house", monies are being wagered as to how long the current situation prevails. Watch this space.
